Fish

Since the 20 gallon fish tank disaster of 2008 I haven't had the strength to update my little blog. Maybe someday soon......... :) I did save 12 of 14 fish much to Mark's chagrin.

One more thing-

I put up the new button on my blog this morning for revolution money exchange. It's Steve Case's (founder of AOL) new version of Paypal except I am excited about it because they don't charge fees for transactions like paypal does.

Anywho, if you sign up with them before May 15th you get $25 and if you click through my link on my blog I get $10 also. The reason I am explaining this (besides I love to make some $) is that someone from my blog signed up today and I got the $10 but it doesn't tell you who it is so THANK YOU blog friend whoever you are!

It's been a good few days. Thursday night Mark came home and told me he had a surprise. I thought Cool, maybe it's one of the $25 gift cards he wins at work. Then he pulled a bright pink 8 gb IPod video nano out of his pocket. I totally squealed with delight! I have wanted an ipod for a long time. It is sweet.



I also got new glasses Thursday. I really like them too. Mark did too which was kind of surprising since he still wanted Harry Potter glasses last time he got new ones. Thankfully the nice eye dr. lady steered him towards a more rectangular shape. I love my new glasses. I can see better and Brynn said I look sophisticated! hee hee

Last night for Pack meeting the Bears were in charge of a magic show. Ryan had a cool trick that he worked on a lot. Unfortunately, it didn't travel well and when we got to the church it didn't work as planned. He was really bummed about it. He had been so excited and had even worn a cool black cape for his performance. The boys really got into the magic theme this month. Last night when I told Mark that my trick was to make his money disappear he didn't laugh. Oh, well. :)

Today is good cause it's Friday. Yahoo!

Just so you know...

I have been fascinated with the unfolding events at the YFZ compound in ElDorado, TX the past few weeks. The state has taken over 400 kids from their parents and put them in foster care. I knew nothing about the FLDS church. (NEVER TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LDS CHURCH- NOT CONNECTED IN ANY WAY) I was interested in finding out more about this reclusive sect andI remembered that Sherelle had recommended the book "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop. I got it and the book His Favorite Wife by Susan Ray Schmidt. Oh my heck! These books were both so fascinating and horrifying! I honestly can't believe these people live in America. The women are so isolated and brainwashed and kept barefoot and pregnant. The incidences of neglect and despair in these books were horrid. I recommend them both highly for a fascinating read but neither are easy reads because of what the women and children in this culture go through. Carolyn Jessop is one brave woman. I worry for her safety since she wrote it.

I feel sorry for the FLDS mothers because I believe they love their children but there is so much more than meets the eye to this group than just the pioneer dresses, etc. It's really sad. It shouldn't happen in 21st century America. Once again, they are in NO WAY associated with the LDS church.

We have hopefully unthawed from winter and actually enjoyed a few warm days. Like 70 degrees warm! I have needed to post but the last few weeks have just been insane and I haven't been in the sharing mood. :) (not that anyone is withering away not knowing what we are up to)

A few highlights until I feel like spilling my guts again-

1. Amy and Don and kiddos came down last week for their spring break. We swam, rode go karts, went out to eat, shopped, all the good stuff!

2. Jonah and Bes and baby Chunk (really- Jeremiah is 2 months old and almost weighs 17 lbs!) came to see us Sat-Sun. We had a fun date with them at IHOP. Mark loves himself some good loaded hashbrowns.

3. My parents and Kendall went on a trip to Nauvoo, Ill., Chicago, and the surrounding areas for spring break last week. They had a great time and even ran into a guy from SV at a Chicago Bulls game! Consequently, Kend is keeping me super busy this week now that he is back.

4. It was so warm on Sat. (keep in mind it snowed on Wed) that Ryan got sunburned! The sun was good for the soul.

5. I am taking over my friend Lauri's Avon route this week and I am excited about that!
